Dear Sappho: A Legacy of Lesbian Love Letters
Dear Sappho: A Legacy of Lesbian Love Letters edited by Kay Turner
For any lover, letter-writing is an act of urgency; but for the lesbian lover, it has often been an act of necessity, the only way to express a love censored in the eyes of the world. Here, in the very first collection of its kind, Kay Turner has selected letters that document love between women over the last 140 years. They are beautifully illustrated with over 60 specially made colour collages. We find eloquent messages of love from famous, ordinary, and anonymous women in the forms of notes, letters, postcards and e-mails that record two lovers' herstory. Some women write thoughtfully, others lustfully; some are soulful, elegant and confident, while others are passionate, joyful and devoted. All express, in different ways, the particular power of lesbian love.
