This is what is called a novel of maturation. It begins with young Jim Larson struggling to understand himself and his life, and ends with the realization of his personality. The aching needs of adolescence are beautifully portrayed and the touching need for someone to love is implicit in every page. Yet, it's action-packed as well. No novel for the fainthearted or the prude, still it's an absorbing tale of a youngster embarked on a search for self-discovery.
