City Voices: A Book of Monologues by Toronto Artists is an anthology of monologues by Toronto artists that showcases the remarkable talent our city has to offer, and celebrates the passion and vibrancy of the Toronto arts community.

Our idea for City Voices came about as a response to the political climate in 2011, which, at the time, was portraying the role of art and artists as superfluous in our society. We wanted to create a forum with which to celebrate the fierce talent and passionate creativity of artists in Toronto, and to provide a space where our voices could be heard.

City Voices offers a mixture of theatrical monologues, spoken word, poetry and prose that together reflect life in Toronto at this moment in its history.

Chosen from an open call put out this past April, City Voices boasts some of this city’s brightest up-and-coming and established writers. The writers whose work graces the pages of this book come from diverse backgrounds, and each offers a unique voice and insight into our world.
